The aerial shots sequentially begin high in the misty Alps. Gradually we descend, fly over pastures, lakes, and castles in the lush Salzkammergut foothills. Then we bear hear birds. In a pasture on the top of a hill we notice Julie Andrews, staring as Maria, exulting in the musical inspiration she finds there “The Sound Of Music”. Here we learn that she is a postulant in Nonnberg Abbey, where she is constantly having into mischief and is the nuns’ despair (Maria). Maria   decides to learn something about the real world before she can take her vows.
Christopher Plummer, staring as Captain Georg von Trapp was a veteran Austrian navy captain whose wife died and left seven children. In the sound of music movie we notice that captain extends his military background in raising them. His attitude toward both Maria and his children were considerably soft after Maria had reintroduced her song in the family.
Robert Wise was asked by Darryl and Richard D. Zanuck to produce the sound of music movie; but he turned it down when it was too saccharine. So, they approached Stanley Donen, Vincent Donehue, Gene Kelly, and George Roy Hill to direct the film; but they all twisted it down. Then Zanuck asked William Wyler to direct the movie who accepted his assignment. Wyler went to Hollywood and started pre-production work on the film, but his wife understood that he was not fully concentrated in it. Then he was approached by Jud Kinberg and john Kohn who had purchased the right to the John Fowles novel the collector prior to it publication Wyler became impressed with the script and left the assignment when he felt an affinity with the project; but Robert wise was available due to delay in direction of the film.
